2016 marks the 40th anniversary for the Sotheby’s International Realty® brand! This is a great milestone in the luxury residential real estate business.

The history of this remarkable brand begins with the Sotheby’s Auction House, established in 1744. In the heart of London, this auction house was built on the tradition of bringing collectors with world-class art. The Sotheby’s Auction House is now over two centuries old and continues to provide knowledge compared to none.

In 1976, the Sotheby’s International Realty brand was established with the same basis of exceptional service as the auction house. This luxury real estate brand became known worldwide for the distinctive and exceptional properties. To further this reach, Sotheby’s entered into an alliance with Realogy in 2004. Realogy is a global leader in real estate franchising and provided for the licensing of the name Sotheby’s International Realty to only select real estate brokerages. By 2008, Sotheby’s International Realty was named winner of the Franchise Business Review’s Best in Category for Real Estate Franchise Satisfaction along with other ratings and awards of prestige.

The brand continues to move forward as 2012 saw the debut of the iPad® app and SIR Mobile, the only mobile app for luxury real estate that works anywhere plus searches on a global scale.  Today, this networks boasts over 700 office in 52 countries and territories across the globe. True to their slogan, “Artfully uniting extraordinary homes with extraordinary lives®”!
