One of the most treasured features of our Upstate area is the Jocassee Gorges.  Named as one of “50 of the World’s Last Great Places” by National Geographic, this destination is rich with wildlife and is internationally known as a diverse and unique bird habitat with falcons and even bald eagles being spotted by its waters. In fact, the Gorges and the surrounding forests cover 40,000 acres and are actually considered to be a temperate rainforest! Jocassee Gorges receives over 75 inches of rain every year! With that, you have an abundance of wildlife – the area is home to some of the largest concentrations of black bear and more varieties of salamanders than anywhere else in the world!

They offer kayak tours (single and tandem kayaks available) where you are guided around the lake to enjoy waterfalls, beach areas, coves, and swimming spots.  Fishing tours are available for those hoping to land a gorgeous rainbow trout or bass.  Aside from lake guides, they also offer the River Adventure Tour, which is a on-foot trek through the rivers and waterfalls that flow into this beautiful lake.

Jocassee Lake Tours also hosts Sunset Lake Tours…ahh, to end your day enjoying the breathtaking sunset during a time when the lake itself is quieting down from the day. Jocassee Lake Tours also provides amazing adventures for kids! Sign your child up for kayaking lessons, available for kids ages 7 and up. They also offer 4 hour long educational classes aimed at teaching children ages 4-14 all about the surrounding area from a geological, ecological and biological point of view. Learn about how the area has evolved and animals adapted over time to what the area is today. Perfect for the up and coming botanists, biology, and geology students. Finally, every kid loves camp – especially an ADVENTURE camp. Each summary on Fridays June-August, Jocassee Lake Tours offers a 4 hour camp for kids ages 4-16 where they learn about the region, it’s plants and animals, and most of all, enjoy hiking and the lake. Perfect for kids who just love getting dirty and being outside.
