The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad

In today’s world, when deciding how to travel we typically plan based on the fastest route. But if you would like to take some time to enjoy the trip itself, consider taking a train ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad!
Over 50 miles of track could be your basis for the next journey you take in North Carolina. These miles and miles of track travel through stunning gorges, valley plus tunnels and bridges. There are various round-trip expeditions to choose from, depending on whether you prefer under 4 hours or a full day. All the trips depart from Bryson City, known as the gateway to the Smokies. Regardless of which journey you take, the railroad will be carrying you through some of the most scenic landscapes in all of America. Much of the area seen is the Carolina Mountains but also includes parts of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Pisgah, Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests.
There are many specialty excursions depending on the season, including the upcoming “PEANUTS™ Pumpkin Patch Express” or the ever popular “Polar Express™”!
