The 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk

This upcoming month, Lake Hartwell will once again host the Bassmaster Classic!  This “Super Bowl of fishing” will be held for the fourth time at this Upstate lake March 4th through 6th.

The 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Huk will takeoff from the Green Pond Landing & Event Center located in Anderson, but the daily weigh-ins will be held at Greenville’s Bon Secours Wellness Arena.  During the tournament days, the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo will also be occurring at the Greenville Convention Center.  The expo is the largest fishing show in the country, with hundreds of exhibits set up offering a wide variety of outdoor gear.  Yamaha, Skeeter Boats, Mercury, Berkley, and more large boat and motor manufacturers will set up shop in the center of the expo, surrounded by smaller exhibit booths from shops all over the US.

You can’t kick off a tournament this size without a party, and the 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic Presented by Huk is certainly a party to remember.  Held at Fluor Field on March 3rd from 5-8pm, the event is a fantastic night out for the whole family!  Enjoy great food, loud music, and fireworks!  The kick off party, along with the daily weigh-ins and the Expo are free for everyone to enjoy.

Lake Hartwell is a fan favorite for the competition and with good reason – since construction was completed in 1963, this reservoir has provided prime fishing habitats for many species, including bream, walleye, and of course, bass!  The large, 56,000 acre man-made lake, which borders Georgia and South Carolina, is teaming with striped bass, also known as rock fish.  This type of fish, normally a saltwater fish, was found to survive in freshwater after a dam was constructed in the lower part of South Carolina which trapped many of these striped bass in freshwater.

The draw of the world’s most prestigious bass fishing competition is great in person and within broadcast.  Broadcasting on Fox and FS1, the event will feature live on-air filming of fisherman out on the lake, an addition to the competition that was first added right here on Lake Hartwell during the 2015 Classic.  To see a roster of the anglers looking to nab the title this year, head over to the Classic’s main tournament page.  This year, we have one of our very own Upstate anglers competing in the competition – Brandon Cobb from Greenwood, South Carolina, a small town between Anderson and Columbia.  We’re pulling for you Brandon!
