The Chautaugua Society Presents the History Comes Alive Festival

We’re continuing our mission of helping long-time residents and new homeowners in our greater Upstate SC area learn & enjoy all our area has to offer with a new Festival this summer. The Chautaugua Society once again brings history to life!  Step back in time and get to know more about the magician Harry Houdini’s story.  Or perhaps learn more about President Eisenhower.  How much do you know about attorney Pauli Murray or artist Georgia O’Keeffe?  What of the politician and attorney general Robert Kennedy?  From June 9th through 19th, the History Comes Alive Festival takes you deep into the lives of iconic figures from America’s past, portrayed by nationally acclaimed historical interpreters.

These live performances are not only a great time of story-telling that will make you laugh and perhaps even cry, but also inspirational as you will hear of the challenges faced by these individuals, told in a skillful and engaging manner.  Shows will be presented in South Carolina (Greenville, Mauldin, and Spartanburg), North Carolina (Brevard and Asheville), as well as in Athens, Georgia.

In Greenville, performances are being held at the Greenville Tech Tent on Barton Campus, Runway Cafe at the Greenville Downtown Airport, Christ Church School – Hartness Arts Center, and the Phillis Wheatley Center. Performers in our immediate area are portraying Harry Houdini, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pauli Murray, Robert Kennedy, and Eisenhower.

Not only are the shows great for the whole family but admission is free!  For more details, including which historical figure will be speaking where, please click here.
