National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day is August 4th

August 4th is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!  No, we are not making this up just so that we have an excuse to indulge in some cookies. Who do we have to thank for this classic confection? In 1938 a lady by the name of Ruth Graves Wakefield was working on a batch of cookies that required baker’s chocolate but she was all out, so she tried using semi-sweet chocolate instead thinking it would melt like the baker’s chocolate and blend smoothly into the dough.  This resulted in the classic Toll House Cookie (named for the Toll House Inn she and her husband owned and operated)!
