Ready for a Hunt? A Mouse Hunt?

Most of the residents at The Reserve at Lake Keowee or The Cliffs Communities have visited Greenville, South Carolina’s top-rated downtown area! Known for the Reedy River Park and a foodie’s paradise, this is a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. One of the lesser-known secrets about this downtown area involves little bronze mice that our mounted throughout a 5 block area of Main Street! There are 9 mice in total to keep a look-out for. For helpful hints and details of the characters, go to MiceonMain.com!

This total project of “Mice on Main” has three brains behind it – Jim Ryan, San Wells, and Linda Kelly. Jim Ryan had the original idea for installing a family of unique mice sculptures in surprising places along the Main Street area. Inspired by the nine mice pictured in the book, “Goodnight Moon”, Ryan made his way through the red tape and raised the money. Zan Wells is the sculptor who created the cleaver mice. Each one has its own look and personality. These mice were placed in their permanent placed creating a scavenger hunt for everyone to take part in! Linda Kelly and her granddaughter were hunting for the mice one spring day in 2007 when her granddaughter questioned if there was a book about the mice. Kelly told her of “Goodnight Moon” but the granddaughter said she meant one about the Greenville mice! When asked by the child “Why don’t you write one?”, Kelly decided to!
“Mice on Main” has the book plus games and t-shirts for sale. The proceeds from these sales go to a Greenville charity so the next time you are strolling through Downtown Greenville, see how many of the little mice you are able to spot!
